Sacha, une jeune fille de l’aristocratie russe de la fin du 19ème siècle, rêve de Grand nord. et elle se languit de son grand-père Oloukine. Scientifique renommé et explorateur de l’arctique, il n’est pas revenu de sa dernière expédition à la conquête du pôle.
Il y a consacré sa carrière, Sacha veut y consacrer sa vie. une vocation qui est loin de satisfaire ses parents qui arrangent déjà un mariage. un violent conflit oppose dès lors Sacha à son père et la décide à s’enfuir de Saint-Pétersbourg. Dut-elle aller tout en haut du monde, elle est résolue à retrouver son grand-père.

En l’an 2154, l’humanité est divisée en deux classes : l’une très riche vivant sur une station spatiale immaculée appelée Elysium, et le reste du monde parqué sur une Terre surpeuplée et dévastée. Le ministre Rhodes, représentant la ligne dure du gouvernement, ne recule devant rien pour faire appliquer les lois anti-immigration et préserver le luxueux mode de vie des habitants d’Elyisum. Ce qui n’empêche pas les habitants de la Terre de tenter de rejoindre la station spatiale par tous les moyens. Quand le malchanceux Max se retrouve acculé, il accepte une mission périlleuse qui pourrait, s’il la mène à bien, non seulement sauver sa vie mais aussi rétablir l’équilibre entre ces deux mondes polarisés.
